Or maybe you’re frustrated because you’re having trouble reading your pill bottles, or the newspaper, or your favorite author’s novels. Maybe it’s more serious, and you’re worried about driving. In any case, you can find the help you need at the Paul Bulger Vision Rehabilitation Clinic. You can meet with a Physiatrist who will document your history, listen to your concerns, and create a plan of care just for you using our entire team of specialists. You may begin with our Certified Low Vision Optometrist, who will give you a comprehensive eye exam to assess your remaining sight. Then you will receive a demonstration followed by prescription of the right optical devices to maximize your sight and make your daily life easier. Our nurse practitioner will help you adjust to your new vision devices and make sure they’re working well for you. We also may meet with you to talk about some of the other health issues you’re experiencing that relate to your vision loss. Perhaps your diabetes is affecting your vision and you could use some information in monitoring and controlling it. If you’re experiencing some sadness about failing eyesight and discouraged that you’re losing some of your independence, a social case worker can talk with you about how to face these changes. This is also the chance to get information to connect to other community services, like free operator-dialed phone calls, reduction on heating bills and transportation. Do you feel you need help to be able to manage your finances, cook meals safely or clean your home? Have you given up bingo because you can’t see the numbers on the card anymore? Our rehab teachers and occupational therapists can offer help in all these areas, teaching you new techniques and introducing you to devices that make life a lot easier. With their help you’ll find that there are many ways to stay independent and still enjoy life! Are you unsteady walking around your home? Are buses a problem because you can’t read the numbers or have trouble seeing the steps? Our orientation and mobility instructors can work with you to solve these problems and increase your confidence in getting around safely. At Olmsted Center's Vision Rehabilitation Clinic, we look at medicine from a vision perspective. Whatever assistance you need, we’re ready to create a plan to deliver it.
