Rehabilitation

Ordinary chores can become extraordinary challenges for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. But many people successfully perform everyday tasks such as cooking meals, reading the mail, signing a check, or enjoying a hobby. How do they do it? With special techniques taught by Olmsted Center's team of professional rehabilitation teachers.

Our caring staff provides instruction in daily living skills such as cooking, housekeeping, and personal care, from safely using a knife to slice vegetables to threading a needle. Services are provided right in a client's own home or workplace.

We'll also help with financial management skills, such as money identification, check writing, calculations and record keeping. Communication training in Braille, keyboarding and handwriting techniques, as well as the use of tape recorders, telephones, timepieces and electronic devices keeps individuals connected to their world.

At Olmsted Center for Sight, we teach the skills that enable people with visual impairments to live as independently as possible.
