STATLER GRADUATION:

Statler's 26th Class Graduated May 1, 2008
A total of 10 Statler students received Certificates of Completion at a ceremony celebrating everyone's hard work. And a few of those students are already working!

Students came from Western New York, New York City, and New Jersey for this class. Ten weeks of learning about all aspects of hospitality, tourism and guest services, with math, writing, public speaking, computer training, and 3 weeks of externships at hotels in the Buffalo area, culminated in a wonderful event. Student's friends and families, externship hosts (Marriott, Adams Mark, Millennium, Central Referral 2-1-1 Service, Holiday Inn, DoubleTree, and Veterans Administration Medical Center), and benefactors honored by Olmsted and Statler joined us in the celebration. The students of the first Statler Training and Employment Program for Telephone Banking Call Center were included.

VISION AWARD:
The National Statler Center for Careers in Hospitality Service is happy to announce that Herb Siegel and Dennis Kahn are the first recipients of the Statler Vision Award.

The Statler Vision Award

Vision means more than just sight. Everyone associated with the National Statler Center for Careers in Hospitality Service understands this more than most. The Vision Award not only recognizes an individual’s caring dedication, but also their forward thinking as well. In addition, it gratefully acknowledges their willingness to share their knowledge, enthusiasm and resources all of which allow for life-changing opportunities for the blind, visually impaired and otherwise disabled.

Herb Siegel Makes Donation To the Statler Center

In July 2007, Herb Siegel pledged $100,000 from the Herb Siegel Foundation, to the National Statler Center for Careers in Hospitality Service. This generous grant will be used to provide cutting edge computer equipment and software to all Statler Center students. A current Statler Center student recently said “technology is one of my strongest links to the outside world; it literally removes the barriers that would have kept me socially and professional behind, and allows me to live to my fullest in a sighted world.”

The Statler Center lab will be renamed, in honor of Herb Siegel, and Siegel Kelleher and Kahn in late spring 2008.

CAREER AND TECHNOLOGY EXPO:

STATLER CENTER IS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE 27TH CLASS
Statler Center’s 27th class begins May 28, 2008. We welcome individuals from across the country. We’ll continue to interview candidates for this class during the next several weeks so if you’re interested in applying, please do! Statler Center deeply appreciates all of the individuals that help “spread the word” of our program and the success our graduates attain for themselves. Thanks for promoting Statler Center and referring people to our program!

ABOUT THE STATLER CENTER'S TRAINING PROGRAM
As a result of enrolling in Statler Center, students get a top-notch education in all things travel/tourism. One of the means we utilize to help ensure students are getting expert, up-to-date instruction is to recruit guest lecturers that are very familiar with the hospitality industry. For example, we bring in hospitality-specific professors from both Niagara University in Niagara Falls, New York and Buffalo State College in Buffalo to work with our students. These individuals help provide classroom-based instruction that gets students up to speed on industry standards, procedures and practices.

We also recruit guest lecturers that work in the hospitality industry on a daily basis, as these individuals pass on practical, real-life knowledge and experiences to our students. Guest lectures from the AAA of Western and Central New York, Adam’s Mark Hotel, Holiday Inn, Buffalo Hotel Supply, Buffalo/Niagara Marriott and Gray Line Tours are just some of the people you’ll meet and learn from here at Statler Center, and that’s just in the first week alone!

We will host a ten week class in Orlando, FL September 10 through November 20. Classes are open to residents of the state of Florida only, and will be held at Lighthouse of Central Florida, 215 East New Hampshire Street, Orlando, FL.
