Resource Center

Playing a game of cards. Dialing the phone to talk to a friend. Making a cup of tea. Individuals who are visually impaired do not have to miss out on these and other activities. Olmsted’s Resource Center is a unique store and lending library featuring books on tape, large print publications, large print books and a selection of adaptive aids that make life with a visual impairment easier, safer, and more enjoyable.

We have a large selection of adaptive aids on display and available for purchase, such as talking clocks, watches and scales; large print calendars, check registers and playing cards; and a variety of other items designed specially for those with visual impairments.

The Resource Center is open Monday-Friday 8am to 4pm. If you are looking for something specific to purchase, please call before you visit our store to ensure item availability. Debbie Gipson can be reached at 716-882-1025 extension 4560 or by email at dgipson@olmstedcenter.org. Online purchasing will be available for a limited number of products in our On-Line Store in Fall 2008. Unfortunately, magnifiers are not sold to the public with out a prescription from a low vision specialist. Please see the Vision Clinic for magnifier information.

Our bright, comfortable library is the perfect place to relax with a book – or find one to take home. Large print selections form the New York Times, Readers Digest and a variety of audio tapes and large print novels are always available, as well as information on eye disorders and treatments. Olmsted Center also partners with the New York State Talking Book Library to provide service applications for talking book machines. Also available for your use are Video Magnifiers to enlarge your reading material, bills or anything that you have difficulty seeing.

Olmsted’s Resource Center is a source of enrichment and support for anyone who is experiencing impaired vision as well as family members and friends.
