The Olmsted Early Education Program is funded by the New York State Department of Education http://www.nysed.gov  as well as the New York State Office of Children and Family Services http://www.ocfs.state.ny.us/main/childcare/default.asp
 
 
DEFINITIONS:
Early Intervention
Birth to Age 3
IFSP – Individualized Family Service Plan
SC - Service Coordinator 
Basic session – 30 – 59 minutes
Extended session 60+
 
EI evaluations – initiated by the County
CORE - initial evaluations at the home of a child birth to age 2
Supplemental – after program has begun, addition services may be added after an evaluation is conducted in the specific area.
 
Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) - for E.I, that is usually at the HOME.
 
 
Preschool
Age 3 – 5
IEP – Individualized Education Plan
School District determines placement and services
 
Related Services:
OT – Occupational Therapy
PT – Physical Therapy
TVI – Teacher of the Visually Impaired
SP – Speech
O&M – Orientation and Mobility
1:1 – aide assigned specifically for a child
SEIT – Special Education Itinerant Teacher
 
Center-Based - a classroom with only children with IEP’s
Integrated – a classroom with 50% or less children with IEP’s integrated with non-disabled children.
 
Evaluations:
Transition evaluations – referred from Early Intervention to Preschool – paid for by school district
Initial evaluations – come from the school districts
Supplemental evaluations – based on additional needs
