Tammy Owen Named New President/CEO of Olmsted Center for Sight

Olmsted Center for Sight’s Board of Directors has elected Tammy Owen as the organization’s new President/CEO following an extensive nationwide search. Owen, an experienced Buffalo area health care executive, succeeds Ron Maier, who retired September 30, 2012. Olmsted Center provides a variety of programs and services to the blind, visually impaired and physically disabled population in Western New York.

Owen has worked in health care operations as a senior manager for more than 20 years, most recently serving as chief operating officer of the Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute. She started at Olmsted Center on April 8, 2013.

“It gives me great pleasure to announce the appointment of Tammy Owen as our new president and CEO,” said Patricia Clabeaux, chairperson of Olmsted Center’s Board of Directors. "We are confident Tammy will successfully lead our organization into the future, and build upon our organization’s legacy and recognition as a regional, national and international leader for people of all ages and degrees of visual impairment. Her strong background in health care management, with a special focus on service delivery, and a team-oriented, results-driven leadership style will serve us well,” Clabeaux said.

Born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, Owen began her career with Kaleida in 1990 as a physical therapist. She was promoted several times throughout her 22 year tenure including positions as vice president, ambulatory and rehabilitation services; vice president, strategic planning and network development; vice president, physician services; president, DeGraff Memorial Hospital; and president, Millard Fillmore Gates Hospital. She currently resides in Buffalo.
